Overview
This trip starts bright and early from Hobart and kicks off with a one hour scenic flight to Melaleuca airstrip, in the heart of the South West wilderness area. Upon arrival we transfer from the air to water for a 30minute boat ride down a narrow inlet to the Forrest Lagoon Standing Camp. After settling into our comfortable twin share accommodation tents those up for a short stroll will be rewarded with a lovely view and a sense of place. Following lunch there is the possibility to relax around camp or join our paddling guide to explore the unique Celery Top Islands by kayak. When the sun dips towards the hills it is time to sink back into a comfortable chair with a glass of wine and take in the views of Mt Rugby from the deck. The evening meal of fresh Tasmanian sea food and produce is prepared and served at our rainforest dining shelter. When the day finally ends retire to the privacy of one of only 5 spacious platform tents and be lulled asleep by the soft murmurings of the Ring-tailed possums in the trees. Next morning you'll be gently woken by the cheerful calls of the forest birds and aroma of brewed coffee and a cooked breakfast. On day two the intrepid can get off to another early start to climb nearby Mt. Beatie for spectacular views that stretch all the way down the Bathurst Narrows to Port Davey. Those looking for a more sedate day can sleep in take time over breakfast and enjoy a leisurely boat ride down the narrows where we pick up the intrepid hikers at the end of their climb. The boat will then continue on to Balmoral Beach for a picnic lunch. After lunch it's back in the boat, back to camp and then off to the airstrip in readiness for the flight back to Hobart.
At the end of this weekend you will be convinced you have travelled in time.
